2025 Visual Roundup
Now that it’s (almost) the end of 2025, I thought I’d post some snippets of this year in visual form, and I promise I won’t include more than one picture of my cat, Esther.
Things change but the girl (now the woman) remains the same
Politically speaking, Americans are finally coming to terms with the reality that non-white people are socially moderate if not conservative, and are veering away from “noble savage” brainworms.
To be clear, I internalized this 25 years ago when I noticed that the girls and women in my father’s grandmother’s household didn’t eat until they had served the men and boys and cleaned up after them, but better late than never. Now more than ever before, I think a lot of people have implicitly decided that being mean is synonymous with being smart.

Not wrong tbh

As I remind myself whenever I’m in a bad mood
When I was younger, I wanted to elope, but I’ve come to see weddings as a community event, putting scripture (in our case, atheist scripture) and tradition and formality in the space between love and death. I don’t recommend having a wedding unless you want one, but in the sense that funerals prevent us from mourning alone, off the book and with no one there to catch us if we stumble in our grief. Plus, I thought I’d be dead before I got married so it’s a novel surprise that I wasn’t.
